TOUR ITINERARY

Arrive at Rome Airport and be transferred to your hotel in the heart of “the Faithful City”. Here you will enjoy a welcome aperitif and meet your host before heading out into the Italian capital for a welcome dinner at a restaurant in the bohemian Trastevere district. Overnight in Rome

Start your day by shopping for fresh, local ingredients in the famous Campo de’Fiori market. Then, use this freshly sourced food in a fun and educational cooking class, which will take place in an exclusive, film-set-worthy apartment on the Tiber island, nestled inside a 16th century palace between Piazza Navona and Castle Sant’Angelo. Here you’ll learn how to make homemade pasta varieties, including ravioli and fettucine, and also how to prepare other delicious delicacies under the guidance of an expert chef. After all your hard work, you’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour, and also pair your marvellous gastronomic creations with exquisite wines selected by the chef. In the afternoon you will have a walking tour to help you acquaint yourself with the city of Rome, which will conclude with an indulgent dinner in the heart of the city. Overnight in Rome

Head to Viterbo, one of the most beautiful areas of countryside in Italy. Better known as Tuscia, this hilly area dotted with valleys, volcanic lakes and castles, was once home to the Etruscans, a civilization that predates the Romans themselves! In the morning you will discover the Etruscan site of Tarquina with its incredible Necropolis, before heading to Tre Botti, a nearby vineyard, as Tuscia is not only famous for its gardens, lakes and fascinating history, but also for the fantastic wine, cheese, honey and oil it produces. Here you will enjoy a fabulous “farmer’s lunch”, which will be followed up by a workshop teaching you all about local food and wine. Then you will taste some of the vini you have just heard about, some of which have won many prestigious prizes, as well as pecorino cheese, biological oil and stiff honey. Return to Rome late afternoon. Overnight in Rome.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, head to Rocca Calascio where you will visit the town’s unimaginably beautiful medieval castle. Due to its fascinating position, the Rocca has been used as the setting for epic movies, including Lady Hawk, The Name of the Rose, and The Highlander to name a few. To make the most of this incredible location, you will stay for lunch at the local restaurant underneath the fortress, where you will feel as if you have been transported back to the Medieval times. But you’ll speedily want to return to the 21st Century, as you’ll be keen to head to your next exciting activity – truffle hunting in San Demetrio Nevetini with a local truffle expert will show you the ropes of his ancient profession, before you head back to  After a long day of searching for the elusive fungi, a large bottle of Montepulciano wine will be waiting to greet you for dinner, as will all the delicate truffles you’ve collected that day. Wake up at Villabruzzo and enjoy a fresh homemade breakfast, before embarking upon a scenic drive through the magnificent Abruzzo countryside. Arrive at your first winery of the day, the stunning Castel di Lama, whose copious vineyards grow a wide range of pecorino, passerine and piceno grapes. Meet expert sommeliers Paolo and Peppe who will explain different production techniques, as well as the history of the family who started the production of wine in this area. After a lot of listening, you will be able to taste the fruits of the family’s labour, supping exquisite wines and pairing them local meats and cheese whilst you recline on the patio. Then head off to the medieval town of Offida, where you can enjoy the serenity of the central piazza and take in stunning views of what is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Head back to Villabruzzo for a warming, restorative dinner. Overnight near Giulianova, Abruzzi.

Enjoy breakfast before visiting the legendary Nunzio Marcelli, a world-renowned pecorino cheese maker whose farm is based near the beautiful town of Anversa. Here you will enjoy a delicious lunch and be able to taste Nunzio’s 15 organic varieties, as well as local meats that combine with the cheese to create a taste sensation! But it won’t only be your sense of taste that is engaged, for as you munch, you’ll also be able to enjoy your wonderful surroundings, and take in charming views of historic mountains, far away medieval towns, and old sheepfolds and cattle-tracks which are dotted across the rural rolling hills. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some of the local wildlife – the brown bear (Orso Bruno Marsicano), the chamois (Camoscio d’Abruzzo) and the legendary wolf of the Appennines (Lupo Appenninico) are all native to this area. Finish up the day by heading back to your accommodation at Villabruzzo, and enjoy the chef, Walter’s, delectable arrosticini. Overnight near Giulianova, Abruzzi.

On your final day, enjoy a farewell cooking class, the perfect finale to your trip as you learn how to recreate the classic Italian dishes you have been enjoying all week! Then, taste your own creations during lunch, which will be served in a typically Italian style - in a tranquil fashion, outside in the shade, and of course, accompanied with a glass of vino! Relax after your busy morning in the kitchen, before heading back to Rome in the afternoon. Here you will have time to take a final wander around the Italian capital before indulging in a farewell dinner in the heart of the city. Overnight in Rome.
