From the foothills of the Alps to the fertile pastures of the Po Valley, seek out the tantalising tastes of Northern Italy for an in-depth introduction to the culture and cuisine of this unique part of the country. Start of in the rolling hills of the renowned and productive Langhe region, as you hunt for truffles (with a trusty truffle pig or dog!) and taste the copious varieties of wine this fairy-tale landscape has to offer. Then, exchange the rustic and rural for the cosmopolitan as you head to bright lights of Turin – Italy’s first capital city! – to watch renowned chocolatiers practicing their craft before you cross the border into Emilia Romagna. Although you may know the region best for its iconic production of Parmigiano Reggiano and Modenese balsamic vinegar, here you will discover lesser known delicacies, as well as have the chance to explore the area’s fascinating history, medieval villages and warm, welcoming inhabitants.


Arrive at Milan Malpensa Airport before being privately transferred to Barolo. Enjoy a welcome aperitif and meet Dino Icardi, a local winemaker  who has dedicated his life to the development of this region’s wine industry. Dino will introduce you to the fascinating secrets of turning vine to vino before you feast upon a delicious welcome dinner in a boutique winery. After filling up on tasty Italian cuisine, rest your head at Locanda Marchesi Alfieri, which offers accommodation in old village houses set in the midst of a charming winery with its very own on-site castle!

Start your day with a visit to the charming town of Alba – which is famous for its incomparable, tasty white truffles – before enjoying lunch at Masucco Winery. You will then enjoy a tour of the estate by Antonio Massucco, who’s family have been producing wine in this very spot for four generations! In the afternoon, take a relaxing stroll around the chocolate-box village of Neive, which is considered one of the most beautiful towns in the Langhe area. Then return to your accommodation at Marchesi Alfieri, where you will be treated to an exquisite dinner before you head to bed to sleep it all off!

Swap the rural rolling hills of Langhe for cosmopolitan Turin, as you pay a visit to Italy’s original capital city. Here you will encounter the incredible Venaria Reale, a magnificent royal palace, before enjoying a traditional Torinese lunch. Then, for dessert, indulge yourself in one of the many historic chocolate shops for which the city is renowned. (Fun fact! The Ferrero Factory is located not far away!) But it’s not all about the food, as you will also get the chance to visit the city’s Museum of Ancient Egypt, which houses the second largest collection of artefacts from this period in the world. Or, if you’re not so much of a history buff, you may prefer to get lost whilst taking a wander around the characteristic narrow streets of the city centre. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon before enjoying dinner at a unique winery renowned for its production of delicious Barbaresco wines. Overnight at Locanda Marchesi Alfieri.

Head south to discover the area of Barolo, which is covered with neat, aligned vineyards, famous for producing what is affectionately known as “the King of Wines.” First, you will meet up with our experienced truffle hunter – Vittorio – who will impart the secrets of his centuries-old profession. Head out for a walk in the woods with him and his trusty truffle hunting dog, where he will explain to you the optimum conditions to promote truffle growth, all whilst looking out for some of the fabulous fungi of course! Afterwards, enjoy a well-deserved truffle infused lunch before heading to the breath-taking Barolo Castle, and finishing up at Marchesi di Barolo for a sumptuous wine tasting. Return back to your accommodation via the most beautiful road in Piedmont, which runs from La Morra to Vergne, before enjoying some free time in the evening and staying overnight for the last time in the charming Locanda Marchesi Alfieri.

Head east towards Modena, and stop en-route at a small, traditional producer of the famous Parmigiano Reggiano cheese – one of Italy’s most popular exports! Then, enjoy a delightful lunch at Corale Verdi, a restaurant in the heart of the wonderful city of Parma, before visiting the town’s ancient quarter. Then continue on towards Modena and visit Acetaia, a villa where exquisite balsamic vinegar is produced. Here you will learn first-hand about the lengthy process of making the high-quality condiment, before indulging in a glorious Modenese dinner, accompanied by the local Lambrusco, a red wine which peculiarly is served chilled. Overnight at Acetaia Sereni.

In the morning, take a guided tour at Villani’s, a family owned salumeria which is world famous for its Parma ham as well as its unique mortadella. Enjoy a brunch in town before having some free time to explore the city, and then return to your hotel to prepare yourself for a unique wine tasting experience on the hills overlooking the Panaro River. Overnight at Acetaia Sereni.

For your final day, visit Bologna, where you will discover why this city is considered the capital of Italian cuisine. First visit the local market to see vendors selling fresh ingredients before enjoying a special cooking class which will teach you how to make delicious handmade pasta. Sink your teeth into a luxurious lunch and then take some free time to explore the fascinating city of Bologna, its medieval towers, red-brick buildings and ancient university being particular highlights. Head back to your hotel (Acetaia Sereni) for dinner and a good night’s sleep.
